Alfie is an award winning director from London. He is drawn to character driven films that sensitively explore emotional truths with imaginative twists. With a background in acting, Alfie revels in drawing powerful performances from his cast.
Alfie's short film 'My Brother Is A Mermaid'. was BAFTA long-listed after it premiered at the BAFTA qualifying Iris Prize Film Festival, where it won Best British Short Film, the Audience Award and the Youth Jury Award with a £20,000 post-production package at Pinewood Studios. The film went on to win the main prize at the BAFTA qualifying Norwich Film Festival, received a Special Mention at Academy Qualifying Flickerfest, and won Best Short at The Casting Director's Association Awards. The film received nominations at over 15 other BAFTA/Academy qualifying festivals, and played at over 50 other festivals globally, picking up several more awards, before being picked up online by Director's Notes and Omeleto. The Iris Prize Jury said 'Alfie's direction is sensitive and compassionate... he takes us on a journey of character growth and development across twenty minutes that more accomplished directors too often fail to do in two hours. Quite simply, outstanding". Little White Lies Magazine described the film as 'A gorgeous short, as steadfast in its representative resolve as it is singular in its empathetic importance'.
Alfie's first short film; 'Purple Heather' is a half hour period drama about the Romani Gypsy community of the New Forest. TThe film went on to win Best British Short Film at Southampton International Film Festival in 2017. Alfie has worked as a script editor and development executive on a number of feature films and series for Constellations Entertainment. A notable work he was a core part of was 'Vivling' - a biopic of Vivien Leigh, on which he worked as a contributing writer, development exec and script editor. The script was awarded a place on the 2014 Brit List.
Alfie has directed content for many brands big and small, from NGOs in rural Uganda, to Airbnb and Mars, gaining a holistic and hands-on skillset - at times shooting and editing as well as directing. His recent work for Solace Women's Aid was featured by The Shiny Awards, and was nominated at the BAFTA/Academy qualifying Encounters Film Festival, as a part of the prestigious Depict Awards.
Alfie has recently received an award of £10,000 to direct his new short film 'Crusts' - a tragicomedy about a family coming to terms with their grief in the wake of a suicide. The film is due to shoot at the beginning of June, 2023.
Alfie is now moving into commercials and music videos, whilst developing a new short film, and feature versions of 'My Brother Is A Mermaid' and 'Crusts'.
